Fierce fighting between PDF and military council troops in Laecha

In southern Shan State, Laecha Township, It is reported that there is a fierce battle between the coup military council army and the Lecha Township Regional Defense Force (PDF) near the village of Thap Mauk today.

An official of the Lecha Township Regional Defense Force told Mekong News that the fighting started in the afternoon on August 29th, near Thap Mauk village.

"Yesterday afternoon, the military council started attacking. There are also militia groups," he said.

During the fighting, the military council reinforced its strength with 3 large military vehicles and attacked Lecha township with the help of the militia.

The local defense force official said that there may be casualties on both sides in the battle, but the number has not yet been confirmed.

The local defense force has announced that villagers should not go out unnecessarily near the places in villages where the battle is being taken place.

Lecha Township is an area where 2 Shan armed groups, RCSS and SSPP, operate, but there are no attacks involved in the battle.
